Dayton Marcos

The Dayton Marcos was Dayton’s most outstanding black baseball team in the 1920s and early 1930s. In the early summer of 1926, it was a member of the Negro National League. The team was mostly under the sponsorship of John Mathews. Their outstanding players were:

  • William Marshall & Jack Bacoy, infielders
  • Eddie Huff, catcher, manager in 1932
  • Ray Brown, pitcher, also ABC, Detroit Wolves, Homestead Grays
  • George Chippy Britt, pitcher, catcher, infielder
  • Blanchard Chesters, third base
  • Otto Briggs, outfielder
  • Water Rev. Canady, utility
  • Albert Clark & Mack Eggleston, utility
